# How to install WordPress: your first 10 minutes

WordPress is the most widely used website management system in the world. Most hosting panels offer one-click installation; manual installation is also possible.

### Method 1: automatic installation from the panel

1. Open the WordPress installer in your hosting control panel.
2. Choose the domain to install on.
3. Enter the site title, an administrator username, a strong password and an email address.
4. Start the installation; it finishes within a few minutes.

### Method 2: manual installation

1. Download the latest version from wordpress.org and unzip it.
2. Create a MySQL database, user and password in the panel.
3. Upload the files by FTP to the site root folder (`public_html`).
4. Open your domain in a browser and enter the database details in the setup wizard.
5. Enter the site title and administrator details to finish.

### First settings

- In Settings, set permalinks to the post name format.
- Delete the sample post, page and plugins you do not use.
- Add trusted security and backup plugins; keep WordPress, themes and plugins up to date.
- Make sure your site opens over HTTPS.
