FTP is the classic way to transfer files from your computer to your hosting account. This guide uses the free FileZilla client.

### What you need

- **Server (host):** the address your hosting provider gives you, or your domain name.
- **Username and password:** the details of your FTP account.
- **Port:** 21 for FTP, 22 for SFTP.

### Steps

1. Install and open the FileZilla client.
2. Enter the server, username, password and port in the top fields and press quickconnect.
3. The files on the server appear on the right. Open your site root folder (usually `public_html`).
4. Drag files from the computer folder on the left to the right.
5. When the transfer ends, open the site in a browser and check it.

### Tips

- Use SFTP or FTPS for an encrypted connection whenever possible.
- Your home page file should be named `index.html` or `index.php`.
- Back up important files before changing them.
