What is web hosting? How to choose the right one
For a website to be published on the internet, its files must sit on a computer that is always on, called a server. Web hosting means renting space on such a server.
Hosting vs. domain name
The domain name is the address of your site (example.com), while hosting is where the site files live. They work together: the domain sends visitors to your site on the hosting.
What is shared hosting?
The resources of one server (processor, memory, disk) are shared between many accounts. It is an affordable start for business sites, blogs and small company websites.
Which type suits whom?
- Shared hosting: beginners, business sites and blogs.
- WordPress hosting: sites that run WordPress.
- VPS: growing projects that need more resources and customisation.
- Dedicated server: large projects that need heavy traffic capacity and full control.
What to look at when choosing
- How many sites will you host?
- Do the disk space, email accounts and databases cover your needs?
- Is an SSL certificate included?
- What is the backup policy?
- What are the support channels and response times?
- Can you upgrade the plan when your needs grow?
Conclusion
For your first site it makes sense to start with a small plan that fits your needs and upgrade as the site grows. You can compare our plans on the Hosting page.
